Tipping in India for tourists can feel confusing because there is no single national rule that tells every visitor exactly how much to give a private driver, local guide, hotel porter, housekeeping staff or restaurant server. In some situations, a gratuity is appreciated but clearly optional. In others, especially during a multi-day private tour, many international travellers choose to tip when the service has been consistently professional.
